Thank you for the opportunity to comment on additional considerations the Nominating Committee (NomCom) may want to consider in selecting members for the Interim ALAC (ALAC).

As you noted, it would be useful to have members who complement or enhance the skills and experience of current ALAC members. Information on current ALAC members can be found at <http://www.icann.org/committees/alac/>.

The NomCom also may find useful the following criteria, which was used to solicit candidates when the Board selected ALAC members:

a.. Experience with At-Large organizing/At-Large Structures and/or past involvement in ICANN issues relevant to individual Internet users;

b.. A basic understanding of the DNS and the Internet's infrastructure, and ICANN's policy-setting role;

c.. Successful experience with group decision-making and consensus development;

d.. Demonstrated commitment to the goals and bylaws of ICANN and the ALAC;

e.. Ability to expend the time and resources necessary to perform the requisite tasks; and

f.. Contribution to the ALAC's diversity in terms of culture, gender, and social and professional experience.

Finally, we would encourage the NomCom, as you make choices among well-qualified candidates, to give special consideration to candidates who can significantly contribute to the ALAC's goal of fostering the formation of At-Large Structures and Regional At-Large Organizations throughout the world. Candidates with extensive contacts in, and /or experience with, organizations relevant to the individual Internet user community would be particularly useful, as would candidates who are accustomed to public outreach , and those who have had extensive involvement in one or more associations or non-commercial organizations.

The ALAC and its members have conducted outreach to encourage individuals to submit statements of interest to the NomCom. This has included postings on our website, email announcements to various At-Large-related lists and bulletin boards, and personal emails to individuals and organizations in various regions.
